Licensing Notice

Last updated: July 1, 2026  ·  Effective: July 1, 2026
// Covers the in-app music libraries: Jamendo, Pixabay, and MusicGen. The authoritative copy of this notice ships with the desktop app; this page mirrors it for reference.

1. What This Notice Covers

VLStudio Desktop includes in-app access to third-party music libraries and an AI music-generation path, as an editing convenience. This notice explains what license terms actually govern that music, what the app does and does not do to help you comply with those terms today, and who is responsible for verifying a given track fits your intended use. It applies to three sources: Jamendo, Pixabay, and MusicGen.

2. Jamendo Tracks

License information is captured, then lost, today. The app retrieves each Jamendo track's Creative Commons license information at browse time, but that information is not retained through to the point where you would need it to attribute the track correctly. Compliant attribution is currently not practically possible from within the app for a track you have already imported. This is a product gap being fixed, not a policy choice.

Not every Creative Commons license permits monetized or derivative use. Depending on the specific license attached to a track:

Before using a Jamendo track in a project you intend to monetize, alter, or distribute under your own terms, check that specific track's license variant. Do not assume a track is cleared for your use because it appeared in the app's library.

Holding a Jamendo API client_id, by itself, is not a commercial synchronization license. A free-tier client_id grants API access to browse and stream the catalog; it does not grant VLStudio or you a commercial sync license to use any given track commercially. If any in-app text states or implies that Jamendo tracks are safe for creators who monetize their content, that statement is incorrect for the free tier and is corrected by this notice. Whether VLStudio has since obtained a commercial-tier Jamendo license is [[JAMENDO_TIER]]; until confirmed, treat all Jamendo tracks in the app as subject to the free-tier, non-commercial default described above.

3. Pixabay Tracks (AI-Gen Music Import Path)

Music available through the AI-Gen music import path sourced from Pixabay is governed by the Pixabay Content License, not by VLStudio's own terms. That license has its own scope and restrictions. You are responsible for reviewing the current Pixabay Content License terms applicable to any specific track before relying on it, particularly for commercial use.

4. MusicGen (AI-Generated Music)

Where the app offers AI music generation via MusicGen, the underlying model weights are licensed under CC-BY-NC-4.0 (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0), a noncommercial license at the model level. Output generated using these weights should not be treated as cleared for commercial use without further licensing. If you intend to use MusicGen-generated audio in monetized or commercial work, you are responsible for confirming that use is permitted; generating the audio through the app does not resolve that question for you.

5. User Responsibility

You, not VLStudio, are responsible for verifying that a specific track's license, whether from Jamendo, Pixabay, or MusicGen, fits your intended use before you monetize, alter, redistribute, or publicly release a project containing it. VLStudio makes these libraries available as a convenience and discloses their license categories and known limitations here; it does not warrant that any particular track is cleared for any particular use.
